Artist Statement

The main source of inspiration for my work comes from organic structures; in particular I am interested in capturing the random qualities that nature produces in shape and form. Elements of plant life, mosses and fungi, cell structures, coral and anemones have all been used as I explore themes of repetition, movement and layering.

All pieces are made using sterling or fine silver, 14ct or 18ct gold. The pliable quality of 14ct gold makes it an ideal choice for my circular brooch designs as it allows a finer, lighter weight metal to be used.

Several of my more recent pieces rely on repetitive surface elements and patterns, built up and overlaid to create a powerful visual impact. I am also beginning to work again with fine wire creating long delicate chains with free moving elements and sculptural shapes, which react with the wearer.

In August 2004 I was awarded a Grant for the Arts by the Arts Council. This was invested into business development through additional training, tools, materials and marketing. A second Grant for the Arts was awarded to me in July 2006 to assist with marketing and exhibition costs for showing at Origin The London Craft Fair in October 2006 at Somerset House.

I now produce work for a growing client base. Limited edition collections are shown in selected galleries throughout the UK. I also take on private commissions allowing the customer to own something uniquely personal.
